Day 6

Today the boys rode for 53 miles. They left Marshfield at 6:50 this morning. They had their first mishap with directions today. They went a mile in the wrong direction and had to turn around and come back. Tim said it got hot really quick today...it started around 8:30.
The guys have been wearing biking gloves and they said that they were so sweaty today that if they gripped their handle bars too tight sweat would drip out of the gloves! Tim was telling me that they are really getting tired and each leg seems to be getting bigger and harder.
They stopped at a gas station in Fair Grove for a quick rest and then moved on to Walnut Grove. At Walnut Grove they stopped at a Cafe' that had really good food. They have noticed that all of the small towns they are going through don't have fast food chains. So, the guys are coming across some really nice cafes and diners. Tim said he had a cheeseburger and fries for less than 4 dollars! They sat and rested at the Cafe' for almost 2 hours. They were still looking for a place to rest so they went up to the school, the school was having their last day of summer school so the boys told them what they were doing and ask if they could rest there. The people at the school let them go lay down in the multi purpose room for a while. They said they used their packs as pillows and laid on the cold tile floor in the air conditioned room. When it was time for the school to be locked up for the day they boys left and went to a park across the street and rested under some shade trees. They had to do a lot of resting because it was just so darn hot. After their long rest they rode 8 more miles to Ash Grove and had an ice cream at a small diner. Then they rode 7 more miles and arrived at Everton at 7:00 p.m. This was their final stop today and they camping in a public park.
The excitement for the day was that 2 dogs charged while they were riding up a long incline. The dogs went at Dustin but nothing ended up happening. Tim said the dogs weren't chasing them for fun they were out to bite! Tim ended our conversation tonight by saying they are having so much fun, but they are very tired.
Tomorrow is going to be the hottest day that they ride and they have 60 hard miles to go to get to Pittsburgh, KS. There is only one scheduled stop and that happens 20 miles into the ride. All other stops will have to be in the shade on the side of the road.
My parents are driving to meet them on Sunday morning and they're bringing them back to Desloge. Sorry, no pictures today.
