Tim, Dustin, Brandon, and Kenny completed the first leg of "Bike Across Missouri." They started in Chester, Illinois at 8:30 this morning. The first stop was 20 miles down the road...or should I say up a lot of really big hills. It took them about 1 & 1/2 hours to finish this leg. They found a shady spot on the side of the road where they met a guy on a four-wheeler. Dustin ask if they could fill up their water bottles and the guy said sure! Come to find out, the man worked for Coke and he gave them some bottles of Vitamin Water!
The second stop was in a small town called Coffman. They had traveled 11-12 miles for this leg and by this time it was really getting hot! My grandparents live near Coffman so Dustin called and ask if they could bring them some sandwiches. My grandma was very eager to help and brought them lunch and drinks. They decided to take a break and stayed there for a couple of hours. (See the picture above)
Their final stop for the day was in Farmington. This town is very close to my parents house...it's actually where Brandon lives. My parents grilled some burgers and we met them for dinner at Brandon and Courtney's house. We got to visit for a few hours before they needed to get into bed. They have another long day ahead of them tomorrow filled with even more hills than today and temperatures in the high 90's!
They figured they were going at an average of 13 miles per hour with a maximum speed of 41.9 mph. The total bike time was 3 hours 33 minutes and 49 seconds. They traveled 47 miles today.
